Tacoma
Art Museum Virtual Tour
The link above
will take you to the Tacoma
Art Museum virtual tour
via the TAM web site.
When taking
the tour, note particularly the
view looking up from the
main Lobby level. This
is a large-volume high-ceiling
space with hard floor and
wall surfaces, which would
typically produce a very
reverberant acoustical
environment. The
reverberant sound is effectively
controlled by the sound-absorbent
continuous fabric ceiling
surface, as well as the
slotted wood surface on
the underside of the mezzanine
(Upper Lobby) which has
sound-absorbent materials
behind the wood surface. In
addition to its sound control
qualities, the slotted
wood in the Event Space
conceals the Sound Reinforcement
System loudspeakers, providing
seamless integration of
the SRS technology with
the interior architecture. |

Comments
from the Museum:
"We were very
concerned about the acoustics,
particularly in the high-ceiling
Lobby, before our first event. However,
the Lobby and Event Space perform
beautifully. BRC did a great
job on both the room acoustics
and the sound system / AV design."
