U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)/LEED®
BRC is dedicated to promoting sustainable design, and is directly involved in the development and advancement of acoustics within the green design movement.
Dan Bruck, president of BRC Acoustics & Technology Consulting, is the Chairman of the U.S. Green Building Council subcommittee on acoustics, which develops LEED® credits for categories of projects such as schools, health care facilities, and multi-family housing. Dan also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Interior Environmental Quality Technical Advisory Group (IEQ TAG), which develops and reviews credits and related materials for the Interior Environmental Quality section of the LEED program.
Although a relatively recent addition to the LEED® system, acoustics is included as a prerequisite and with enhanced performance credits in LEED® for Schools 2009. Acoustics is also included in the upcoming LEED® for Healthcare, and a pre-approved Innovation in Design credit is available in LEED® for Homes.
BRC offers the presentation, "Acoustics for Green Design," to address cost-effective acoustical design for compliance with LEED for Schools, discuss “green” acoustical materials for constructon, and offer design solutions to coordinate green architecture with effective acoustical design.
